Food Geek started life as a small personal blog and is still written primarily for fun. Over time its popularity and readership has grown and so have the PR opportunities.
I’ve been offered countless free meals and products in exchange for reviews but for a long time turned them down to preserve the integrity of my reviews. However, after a change of heart I believe I’m still able to write impartially regardless of whether I paid for the meal/product or not. As such I have begun to accept occasional promotional invites. When this happens it will always be mentioned in my review if I didn’t pay for all or some parts of the meal (effective 10/07/2013. May not apply to earlier reviews) and it will be made clear to the restaurant and/or PR company that I will write a 100% honest and accurate account of my experience. Furthermore, I won’t ‘rate’ the restaurant using my usual star system as it’s unfair to rank them against restaurants that didn’t invite me.
Occasionally I’m also offered additional dishes to sample, often free of charge or in return for my opinion. Again, this will be stated where applicable.
I will happily receive restaurant invitations for places that I’d be likely to visit anyway. I’m particularly interested in independent restaurant openings and new menu launches.
I’m also happy to consider sample products or services to review but i’ll only accept if I believe they fit with the general theme, readership and audience of my blog.
I’m not currently looking to sell advertising space.
I am not interested in featuring sponsored posts on the site. All posts are my own and I intend to keep it that way.
